SNOW! What to Do…

I recognize that all of the readers of this blog are not on the East Coast or even in the United States.  But, where I am it is 5am and there is already about 8 inches of snow on the ground. And, we are bracing for 1 to 2 feet more.  My family is upstairs in bed so I thought I’d send a quick note out to my readers with a few things to do during the next few days…even if you are not caught in this snow storm.

  1.  Hunker down and be fully present with loved ones.  It is not often that we are forced to stay in our homes and simply be present.  The question is, will you be?  Last night I was in the shower and in my mind I was coming up with a plan of attack to shovel all this snow (we have a ridiculously long driveway).  It actually gave me a moment of anxiety.  I was worrying about the wind, the basement, etc..  Then I realized, all of this was out of my control.  And, that I had not had 2-3 days in my home with my family in over a year.  What a blessing.  Fires, wrestling on the floor with my boys, baking cookies…just being present.
  2. Give thanks for all that you have and think of those not as fortunate as you.  One cannot help but think of all the people without shelter, heat, and nourishing food when a massive storm like this hits.  Above I mention that I will be lighting fires, eating good food, and snuggling with my family.  I worried about shoveling snow or the wind damaging my home.  These are tiny concerns compared to being worried about staying alive in the cold or finding a hot meal. Writing this I feel a sense of guilt.  The very least I could do is count my blessings and think of ways to continue to give back to my community when the snow clears.
  3. Read past posts of Ted’s Truth!  If you have some downtime to yourself go back and read some past posts and allow the reading to jar some thinking.  And when the snow clears, take some action relevant to the reading.
  4. Be safe!  While the snow may be pretty and your children (and even you if you are like my wife)  are out of their minds excited, this is not an ordinary snow.  Some say it is the worst blizzard in almost 100 years and we need to respect that.

God Bless each and everyone of you.  Enjoy, reflect, give thanks, and be safe.

Stay True,

Ted

  1. I, like my Angel, LOVE a good snow storm!! I was so excited about this snow it was as if I were a child. BUT! The main reason I love it isn’t going out and playing (I can’t since I just had back surgery) but rather being stuck in the house with my family! Cooking yummy comfort food and sweets, getting things done I usually don’t have time for and enjoying that with my family. None of us ever have 2 or 3 days of nothing but time with our families and its wonderful (even if some have to shovel, I had a free pass this time, lol).
And yes, I too worry a bit about the house, a little leak in the basement that acts up once in a while, if the snow will be too heavy for the roof, but then I think that God and my parents are watching over us and all will be alright!
God Bless you Ted, Angel, Jax & Max, I love you all 🙂
